How Do Jobs Work in The Escapists 3?
The confirmed pitch is short enough to quote: the official Steam page says you take jobs and earn cash. Behind that line sit three facts. A jobs system exists and is explicitly redesigned — announcement coverage describes it as rebuilt for this entry, not carried over. Jobs pay wages. And jobs are one of three ways the game lets you fund an escape, alongside trading with inmates and theft. That is the whole confirmed picture, and this page is the dedicated breakdown of it — the one-paragraph version lives in everything we know so far.
Everything beyond that is still sealed. The 62-second announcement trailer is pure cinematics, so no job menu, no wage figure and no shift UI ever appears — but it does show the kind of workplace the system is built around. Late in the reveal, the camera drops into a prison workshop: conveyor belts threaded between machines, crates moving down the line, and inmates at their posts.

The trailer’s widest look at the workshop: conveyor lines, supply crates and inmates at their stations (0:47).
Nothing on screen names the jobs. The safe reading is that the trailer illustrates the concept of prison work — not a specific job list. Which posts exist, and whether every launch prison runs its own set, is unannounced.
The Three Confirmed Ways to Make Money in The Escapists 3
Announcement-day press coverage lays out the earning side as three channels, and all three are anchored in official copy:
- Jobs — the Steam line quoted above: take jobs, earn cash. Work is the steady, sanctioned income.
- Trading with inmates — “trade with inmates” is named directly on the store page as a way to get supplies, and coverage counts it as an income channel in its own right. Your fellow prisoners are a market.
- Theft — the third channel. The store page’s search-and-scavenge copy (“search cells”) and the series’ whole contraband culture point the same way; coverage states it plainly as one of the three ways to get money and goods.

An inmate works the conveyor line — the on-screen stand-in for the jobs the store copy says pay cash (0:46).
Note the shape of that list: two of the three channels are unofficial or outright criminal, which is the series’ economic design in miniature. Jobs are the legitimate cover; trading and theft are the escape economy running underneath it. The store page’s slogan — “turn rubbish into freedom” — only works if you have the funds to buy, barter or steal the parts, and the items and weapons page covers what those funds eventually buy.
Why the Model-Inmate Act Matters
The same coverage that confirmed the jobs system added a condition: you work the jobs while keeping up a model-inmate act. That phrase is doing real design work. A prisoner who shows up to their job, makes roll call and follows the daily timetable moves through the day with less friction — and freedom of movement is the raw material of every escape plan this series has ever built.

The other half of the money game: life on the timetable, where the model-inmate act is performed (0:44).
What is not confirmed is the machinery under the act. No official material describes a visible reputation stat, an opinion system, or concrete bonuses for good behavior — the older games’ inmate opinion system is the obvious precedent, and its return is an open question tracked in everything we know. Treat “model inmate” as confirmed direction, not as a documented mechanic.
Jobs, Supplies and the 120+ Item Economy
Money is only half of what jobs pay. The Steam page groups three activities as ways to “get your hands on supplies”: searching cells, trading with inmates, and completing jobs. Supplies are the bridge between the earning channels and the confirmed roster of 120+ items and weapons — the scavenge-and-craft economy that actually equips an escape.

A second inmate minds a desk station while crates move down the line — the trailer shows the workplace, not the job titles (0:45).
How exactly wages, prices and supply drops interlock is unannounced — there is no shop UI, no price list and no currency symbol in any official material. What the interlock does confirm is that jobs matter to more than the money ledger: they are a sanctioned supply pipeline. And because the XP skill system has no job locks — confirmed in the skills and XP guide — working a job does not gate which skills you can pick. Work funds the plan; skills shape it.
What Is Not Announced About Jobs
The honest list, as of October 14, 2026:
- The job list itself — no posts, departments or workplace names are published. The trailer workshop labels nothing.
- Wage values — no numbers, currencies or pay rates exist in official copy.
- Job performance mechanics — nothing on shifts, schedules, minigames, or failure states.
- Promotions and raises — not mentioned anywhere official.
- Per-prison variation — whether the five launch prisons offer different jobs is unknown.
- Reputation mechanics — the model-inmate act is confirmed as a concept; any stat behind it is not.
What to Expect
This section is expectation, clearly labeled. The previous game paid wages for prison jobs and let inmates trade, so a familiar loop — work your post, mind the schedule, spend on the plan — is the reasonable baseline. Expect the actual job list and pay details to surface in hands-on previews rather than the announcement cycle, between now and the 2027 launch window. Frame-by-frame context for the workshop scenes above is in the trailer breakdown, and the reveal’s full context is in the announcement breakdown. When Team17 names a single job, this page updates with a date attached.
